FAQ
Skin naturally renews itself every 28 days.
Twenty-five percent of the skin is exfoliated every week, causing UV damage. Sunless spray tans only affect the top %15 percent of the skin.
Sunless tanners should use a tanning program to maintain the level of sunless tan for longer.
If not exfoliated properly, sunless application will apply to dead skin cells that will be shed within a day or two. Properly exfoliated skin will leave fresh, new skin ready to absorb DHA.
Client Skin Prep
- Schedule your manicure, pedicure, facial, waxing and hair appointments.
- It is recommended that foundation be done only before spray tanning or after the first rinse.
If you are going to shave or wax before spray tanning (recommended), do it the day before because pores need to close properly after hair removal. If they do not, this can create a blotchy appearance.
- Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! I mean scrub. Incredibly important.
- Exfoliate with an oil-free body scrub 24 hours before spray tanning. Use an exfoliating wash.
- Take a simple shower the morning of your spray tan.
- Do not apply lotion, cream or perfume before your session. You can use a very small amount of deodorant. Do not apply too much as it will stain.
ABSOLUTELY AND ABSOLUTELY wear dark colored clothing, loose clothing and open flip-flops. The tanning solution washes out of most fabrics but can stain nylons, lycras and silk. Cotton is recommended. You do not want clothing or shoes that will rub against your skin as your tan develops.
Aftercare For Customer
- Cover your car seat with a dark or black towel to prevent sweating and scratching.
- Avoid wearing a bra, stockings or other restrictive clothing immediately after your spray tanning session. Looser clothing is best to avoid any streaking as your tan develops.
- Follow the rinse times your tanner has set for you. You should avoid showering until then. This will depend on your skin type, the solution they use etc.
- If you are tanning late at night, sleeping with it on overnight is fine. My regular clients use old sheets to sleep on during their tanning nights so the temporary tan will rub off onto your sheets overnight. It will wash out, but be aware that this can happen.
- Your first spray tan after a shower should be a simple rinse (no soap). You will notice that the temporary tan has washed away and your underside is beautifully tanned. Your tan will continue to develop even after you shower, so don’t worry if you don’t get as tan as you expected, it will continue to develop over the next 24 hours. Moisturising is key from here on out!
- After showering, pat dry. (Lightly)
- Moisturize twice daily to extend the life of your beautiful tan.
- Soft Moisturizing Cream. Avoid moisturizers that contain AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) as this promotes exfoliation. Also avoid any DHA products that contain self-tanners (which can potentially cause yellow tones).
- The life of your tan will depend on how often you exercise, shower, and your skin’s exposure to chlorine and salt water. If you plan on swimming, apply a thick layer of sunscreen lotion as it creates a barrier between your spray tan and the water.
- It is recommended that you do not shave your skin until the third day after applying the spray tan as this is also a type of exfoliation.
- We recommend that your skin rests for 10 days after every five weeks of spray tanning. We recommend that you have a body exfoliation at a professional.
- Healthy, moisturized skin will last longer than the results of your sunless tanning session. Results will vary from person to person.
- Exfoliate 24 hours prior to your spray tan with a basic loofah or wash rag. Also, stay away from any heavy exfoliating oils. After showering DO NOT apply lotions, oils, or perfumes.
- Shaving should be done 12 hours before your spray tan. Streaks may be an issue in your final tan if you shave right before due to the wax from the shaving bar.
- Manicures, pedicures, and waxing should all be done prior to your spray tan. - Make sure to bring loose fitting clothes that fully cover your body for after your tan to avoid skin to skin contact.
The length of your tan depends on the maintenance afterwards. Most people notice their tan begin to fade after about 5-7 days. Moisturizing and staying hydrated are two important factors that help maintain color. Refrain from showering in hot water to prolong your tan as well.
Our technicians will help you decide on the best solution and/or tone for you the day of your spray tan. Based on the solution used, we will give you a timeline on when to rinse off.
After 12 hours . Drinking enough water is the key. Leaving on the cosmetic bronzer longer than the time allowed will not make your tan darker. The technician is the only one in control of making you darker.
Absolutely NO soap. A really slow rinse with luke-warm water is best. Only use your hands to remove the bronzer, and focus your attention to your legs, behind your arms, in your ears and around your nose etc. The #1 cause for streaks is that the bronzer was not rinsed off properly and can stain the skin for a few days so it's important that the first rinse is thorough. Pat yourself dry with a soft towel afterwards.
Hop back in the shower and do another rinse. If that doesn't help, rubbing alcohol on a cotton swab will help remove the streak. Keep in mind that it will also remove the tan in the area you apply it to. We do not recommend respraying if this occurs.
Wipe the areas you don't wish to have solution with alcohol pads. The alcohol helps remove the solution
Wait 12 hours AFTER your initial rinse before applying any kind of lotion. CeraVe is Isabel's favorite lotion. Moisturizing is the key to prolong your spray tan so moisturizing twice daily will give you the best results. It's also important to stay hydrated and drink lots of water throughout the day.
Wait 24 hours for it to fully develop after rinsing. If it's still not dark enough, we can try another solution at your next appointment.
Try rinsing again, soak in a bath tub, or sit in a sauna/jacuzzi. These methods will remove some of the bronzer to lighten the color.
Wait 24 hours. For best results, use soap only on lady parts to avoid depleting the color. Also, minimal scrubbing and shaving since it can strip the tan away.
Yes! The most important thing to remember is that the solution does not contain any UV protection/sunscreen. We recommend using a water based SPF over your spray tan. You will still be able to develop a tan naturally in the sun while keeping your skin protected.
NO! We do not advise having a spray tan over peeling skin. The full peel and heal process can take anything between 3-6 weeks. You will have to reschedule your appointment if peeling occurs.
Yes, it will remove majority of the tan and/or lighten it. Seawater, chlorine, and hot tubs can accelerate the fading of the tan. I recommend wearing waterproof sunscreen to help repel the water.
Bra/underwear, swimwear, or nude. Whatever you are most comfortable with.
DHA is FDA approved and only penetrates the outermost layer of the skin. There is no evidence that DHA is harmful. However, we do recommend that you consult with your physician first.
Not unless you are completely healed.
Only if the area is completely healed.
Only with parent's consent.
We recommend scheduling a patch test prior to coming in for a full tan.
Normally yes, but a waiver will need to be signed prior to getting spray tanned.
Unfortunately you may notice in the first few days that minimum make up can rub off on your clothes/sheets. This will be minimal and will rinse off. However, it is really important that your first initial rinse is thorough as this will minimise any risk of rub off.
Please head over to our "booking" section on our website.
The best time to get sprayed before any event is 2-3 days prior.
You may work out as normal after the first rinse. We do however suggest that you refrain from wearing any tight clothing that can rub your fresh spray tan.
No, you will not appear orange with a Golden Aura. We use the highest quality solution and guarantee that you will not turn orange.
Soak in baby oil for an hour then jump in the shower to exfoliate everything off skin. You can also shower with hot
water and exfoliate the color off. Japanese scrubs/exfoliating mitts help to remove the tan as well.
Yes, unfortunately in some instances the tan may stain your sheets or clothing but we recommend if you are sleeping in your tan while it develops that you wear full pyjamas, to minimize the risk of staining your sheets. This also helps minimize skin to skin contact (ie: hands touching skin.) The bronzers are just like make up and can be removed from sheets/clothing and washed following the care instructions.
